French Orange Cake in Jar

Bringing an enormous orange cake in picnic is not really convenient. So for my first participation to Foodista challenge, a French cooking challenge organised by Stéphanie from Cuisine moi un mouton, I propose you to put your orange cake in jar.

If you are interested in finding more about the challenge, you can visit the French part of this blog and you will find all participants’ name, the organiser of this session Gordana from Des Recettes à Gogo and more.

The theme of this month is What to bring in your picnic!

French Orange Cake in Jar

As you can see I am collecting Bonne Maman’s jar for a while especially for this occasion.

French Orange Cake in Jar

Unfortunately I just finished my cakes and I prepared myself to picnic … under the rain … It looks like my picnic is going up in smoke. But anyway I will still eat these delicious cakes!

So I will take my pictures inside; but with my special picnic bag and my lemon thyme from my balcony to confirm that it’s right spring is almost there. With plenty of picnics!

  • 2 eggs
  • the juice of 2 oranges
  • the zest of 1 orange
  • 100 gr. of flour
  • 8 gr. of baking powder
  • 100 gr. of icing sugar

Instructions

  • Remove butter of the fridge at least 30 minutes before.
  • Preheat oven to 180°C.
  • Mix softened butter with sugar. Add one by one egg yolks while mixing.
  • Pour half of orange juice, zest, flour and baking powder. Wisk until you get an homogenous paste.
  • Beat egg white, incorporate in the previous mix.
  • Butter and divide the mixture among the jars.
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes.
  • In the meantimes, heat the rest of orange juice with icing sugar until dissolution. Pour on top of the warm cakes and close the jars. Leave to cool.

I made these cakes in jar for transport purpose only, as a result you cannot conserve them more than an usual cake.
